(RESOLVED) dnsomatic issue

Hrm... seems that the company has disabled http://myip.dnsomatic.com and refers it back to top page of http://www.opendns.com. In looking through their dev documentation, it seems you can get similar output from checkip.dyndns.com, but it requires a bit more sifting because it comes wrapped as standard HTML output. So you can't just modify the URL in /c/addons-scripts/DnsOMatic/dnsomatic.

To resolve the issue, I changed this line of the dnsomatic script

IP=$(/usr/local/bin/curl -s http://myip.dnsomatic.com/)

to

IP=$(curl -s http://checkip.dyndns.com/ | sed 's/.*:[ ]\(.*\)[<]\/body.*/\1/')

Also be careful about your update frequency... they seem to now suggest no more often than 10 minutes.

  • Thanks btaroli

    I've got e-mail-bombed by DNS-O-Matic for abuse. Strange, because I have used the same settings for a long time and had got no prolems with that. Maybe they changed their allowed update frequency.

    Does DNS-o-Matic not have a skip variable like the DynDNS client?
    Example of Dyndns Client - settings
    use=web, web=checkip.dyndns.com/, web-skip='IP Address'

    I have collected some "my ip" services:
    http://myip.dnsomatic.com
    http://ip1.dynupdate.no-ip.com
    http://checkip.dyndns.com
  • Thanks! I've had the abuse mails as well, but couldn't find what the problem is and just turned the add-on off.
    I didn't check it before, but if I check http://myip.dnsomatic.com, then it just returns my IP like it used to do... Maybe it was a problem they had at dnsomatic and which is fixed now?
