104 stuck on boot after firmware upgrade

I have just run the firmware update to 6.1.9 on my less than a year old Readynas 104. Everything was going as usual until the reboot phase of the update. Now the unit is stuck in booting. The display shows the message: Restarting Now. See you soon.
To make sure that it wasn't just taking an abnormally long time to boot I let it go overnight, however this morning it is still at the same point. The unit will not power down via the power button on the front and I am hesitant to unplug the power.
Can anyone help to get me back up to running?

  • Unplugged, waited 30 sec., plugged in and restarted.

All seems to be back to normal.
  • Must be a common issue. Just updated my 104 with the same result...

Most of the time when updates are done it doesn't hang on booting, but in some cases it does. At least there is a quick solution if it does happen.
  • Have just had the same experience updating (via online interface) from 6.1.9 to 6.2.2, although the front LCD panel displays:

    "Booting...
    Updating FW"

Blue power light flashing (does not respond to long press).

Been going for 50min so far, will give it 2hrs then pull the cord and hold my breath...
  • I have the same issue - unplugged it but it did not come back up.

Tried to reload OS from boot menu, but still failed.

    What next?

What do you see on the LCD when you try to boot it?
  • My LCD looks like it goes through the correct boot process:

    "Booting ....."

At some later stage it then freezes and with a "Retrying Startup" message. There is likely to be other messages in between, but I haven't sit there and watched for them.

When it hangs at the retrying startup message, the hard disk(s) sit there with a lot of activity happening

Let me know if you need more info and I'll watch the complete boot process.

    Thanks
    Nick
  • Any solution to this yet? I got a new NAS, configured everything yesterday, powered on and and it got stuck on "Booting ......." for hours.
