What this means is that when the disk was told to start spinning it failed to reach the operational speed, so the drive (on its own) tried again. Usually it is caused by issues with the mechanical subsystem of the disk (for instance bearings in the motors starting to wear). It seems particularly unlikely that anything in the NAS firmware could provoke this particular problem.

I am wondering if you purchased/installed these drives in the NAS at the same time? Note they are under nearly identical loads (assuming xraid-2). All the drives spin-up/spin-down together. Also RAID spreads the reading/writing across all the drives pretty evenly.
