6.2.0 upgrade problems on RN104
Since upgrading my RN104 to 6.2.0 I've had similar problems to those listed by other users:
- Unable to shutdown or reboot. Display shows appropriate message and power button LED flashes, but nothing actually happens.
- Device randomly goes offline while being used.
- Device stops responding to power button.
I've done the boot menu OS Reinstall, but no change. The logs show nothing of interest whatsoever (other than 3 of the disks being over 95% full, which I am currently rectifying by moving some files to drive 4) and don't even mention the fact that the OS has been upgraded, which seems a bit of an oversight if you ask me!
Should I go for the factory reset or is it worth giving 6.2.1-RC2 a try as per this thread: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=78850? All 4 drives are backed up but I'd rather not have to spend a week reinstalling everything if I can avoid it.

- vandermerweMasterYes try 6.2.1 RC2.
Do you have any apps installed? - PigletLuminaryThis happens on my RN104 too since updating to 6.2. The randomly going offline is very annoying since it disconnects the shares from computers using it. The only app I'm using is Transmission.
- vandermerweMasterWell have you tried the RC?

OK, I'll do that when the files have been moved to drive 4 and backed up, and report back. Might be tomorrow at this rate.
Only one app is installed, Transmission 3.00.3, but has not been enabled for months. I'll remove it before upgrading the OS, just in case.
Thanks. - vandermerweMasterGood idea.
Transmission causes all sorts of problems. - BabbageAspirantAll systems go, I think! I installed RC2 this morning then rebooted and shutdown the NAS a few times without a hitch. I've copied some more files onto it throughout the day and not had any problems.
I've now enable disk spin-down, the reason I eagerly updated to 6.2.0 in the first place, and will leave it powered up overnight and see what I find in the morning. - PigletLuminaryI'm pretty sure it's Transmission that causes this for me. The lockups usually happens after adding a new torrent, and yesterday I tried adding a big (90GB) torrent and the NAS never recovered from the lockup. I had to pull the power… Usually it comes back after 15 mins or so, so it seems related to the size of the files.
Checking kernel.log shows messages like:Dec 15 09:24:52 NASName kernel: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 23s! [transmission-da:6936]
This didn't happen before OS 6.2 though. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredDo you have CoW enabled on the share? Sounds like you may have a lot of fragmentation on your system.
It's a coincidence that you encountered the problems you have after the upgrade. - PigletLuminaryYes, CoW seems to be enabled on all shares… I guess that happens automatically when upgrading to 6.2?
I have disabled bit-rot protection now, and also started a defrag. Should I also do a scrub once the defrag finishes? - vandermerweMasterYou should ensure continuous protection is also disabled on the transmission share.
