Access shares as mapped network drives over internet
I know this is probably asking for the moon on a stick but is it possible to set up a computer (windows 7 in my case) to see the RN104 shares as mapped hard drives when I access the RN104 over the internet?
At the moment we all store everything on the RN104 at home so our computers are not used for storage. This works really well, one copy of the household music, photo albums, movies etc. The network is fast enough that we don't experience any latency issues either, which is something I was worried we may see at first!
Where the system fails is if I take my laptop to another location I can't get to anything - unless I use the ReadyCloud app- which is really very manual with it's web based interface. Also, I don't want to go down the route of syncing folders when I am at home then accessing them when I am away - yes I know, I really do want the moon on a stick :)
At work we have a system where we can log in using my work laptop at home and then all the company drives appear in my laptop as if I was connected to the company LAN, even the drive names are the same!
The company I work for is a massive international company who can probably afford the time to set this kind of thing up, I am guessing it's not going to be possible for a home user with a £150 NAS?
I am still quite a new NAS user, so if it's going to be a real mission please say and I'll settle with what I have!
Thanks in advance!

- EskenderNGNETGEAR EmployeeHi,
There are at least three things that you need to consider independent of how you plan to access your device remotely:- Any means of accessing your ReadyNAS from a remote location will involve knowing the current IP address of your home internet connection which is changing from time to time. You will need to find a service that handles this task for you. Also, your Windows configuration will need to be updated accordingly whenever your home IP address changes.
- Your home router will need to be configured so a connection attempt from outside your LAN will be redirected to your ReadyNAS.
- You need to make sure that the whole process is secure as with the topic above you are creating a door for someone from outside to access devices within your LAN.
I know the ReadyCLOUD Desktop App is not the same as having your ReadyNAS appear as a network drive within the Windows Explorer. However, this software eliminates the need to worry about all of the issues mentioned above.
Also, just to clarify: The ReadyCLOUD App is not for syncing only. You can access all your data remotely at any time.
Bye,
Eskender - etonLuminaryGoogle: mount readynas share over wan
You will need to set up portforwarding and DynDNS.
You can find some info in my threads:
FTP and Apple Airport Extreme - passive port solution
FTPS access over WAN?
DDClient settings
Then mount the shared drive with appropriate util.
Another keyword is iSCSI.
More ReadyNAS plugins here:

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou could sign in to ReadyCloud and map a network drive to the 5.X.X.X address of the NAS.
