You wouldn't have expansion of file system by just adding 1 disk. You basically go from JBOD (1 disk) to RAID 1 (2 disk). If you replace the original disk 1 with a 3TB disk, your volume should expand. You need 2 or more disks of equal size in order to have more space (redundancy).
