May 10, 2013Accessing ReadyNAS NV+ v2 in Windows 8 - Password?
Hi
I have a strange one with regards to accessing the ReadyNAS NV+ v2 via Windows 8. I have 4 PC's here and three of them access the NAS without any need for username and password - simply click on the NAS under 'Network' and bingo, access.
Having said that, with my PC, each time I try to access the NAS I get prompted to input a username and password. I put in the username and password I use for my ReadyDROP/Remote access and bingo, I'm in. If I sign into my Win8 PC with my Windows LIVE account, I do not get prompted for the username and password when trying to access the NAS. Weird huh!
I have tried formatting and reloading my PC, though I still have this username and password prompt each time I try and access the NAS form my PC.
I know I can input the username and password and 'remember my credentials' and all will be fine... I know I can log on via my LIVE account and all will be fine... though I would really like to get this glitch (or whatever) fixed.
Any thoughts please?
Thanks in advance!

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserWhat username are you using to sign into windows? (not the LIVE account name, the username that fails to work)?
The NAS has user accounts and passwords.
When Windows accesses the NAS by default it uses the the windows user/password you used when you logged into windows.
If that windows username isn't configured on the NAS and the folders are shared with "everyone" access this doesn't matter. You get guest access to the folder.
But if the windows user name is listed as a NAS user account, then you need to make sure the password on the NAS and the PC match. Otherwise the Windows credentials will not work. For instance, if you are logging in as "admin" on the PC, then you need to make sure the admin password on the PC matches the admin password on the NAS.
Also if the folders are not shared with "everyone" access then of course you need to be using NAS user credentials.
There are three ways to solve this:
(a) confirm that the NAS has a user name that matches the one you are using on the problem PC. If so, set the password for the NAS user to match your windows password. If not, create a user account on the NAS that matches your PC username/password
(b) use the Windows Credential manager to enter the credentials you want Windows to use when it accesses the NAS
(c) tell Windows to remember your credentials - Retired_MemberThanks SO much for the reply and the assistance! I've been emailing Netgear support for the last week and a bit and they have not been able to solve this for me (I should add that they have been great in trying to help)... and you have in one fowl swoop :)
Again, really appreciate the help! - etassAspirantThank you,
Helped me solve my problem too! - cubewebsolutionAspirantHi, I got this to work with my Windows 8 PC when I'm logging in using my Microsoft Account, so I set up an account on my ReadyNAS 316 so that the username is my email address, the same one that is used to login to my PC, and the password is the same.
But when I try to create a user account on the ReadyNAS that matches another user on my network who's Windows account is 'John Smith', I can't create that user on the ReadyNAS as it won't allow spaces in the username.
What do I do for those types of users? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserOne option is to use John_Smith on the NAS, and enter that user/pass for the NAS in Window's credential manager (in the control panel).

I've tried all of this and still cant access any of my shares. I've set my NAS admin password as my windows password and have set it up in the Credential manager and I cant open ANY Of MY Shares, all of which were previously available without any kind of login. This is driving me crazy. I'm on Win 8.1 64bit
Any suggesstions? I get a perpetual loop where Windows Security pops up and asks for network credentials. I try to use my windows login and get errot message "Specified Network Password is not correct" So I try using the Nas Username and password and get exactly the same error. Uggggghhh!
