Accessing ReadyNas RN31200 without networking

I have a ReadyNas device that I believe has an issue with its LAN ports, I am unable to discover this device from ReadyCLOUD or with RAIDar. I am looking to see if there is any other way to access this device without networking (like via a usb port or something else I am not thinking of) I have attempted to reset this device without the drives in it and have still had no luck in accessing it. Would the only way to access what is stored be to pull the drives and recover the data that way? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

If the LAN ports are in fact broken, you will either need to

    • Get a replacement OS-6 ReadyNAS and migrate the disks or
    • Connect the disk(s) to a PC and mount them with suitable tools

On the second option - there is a beta version of btrfs and mdadm for windows that could be used.  Of course the linux btrfs and mdadm could be used as well.  If the volume is damaged, you could use ReclaiMe raid recovery software.

If you are the original purchaser, you should check your warranty status (5 years for the original purchaser).

Did you try RAIDar with the disks removed from the NAS?  If the LAN ports are working it normally will show up with a "no disks" status.  That would rule out any issues with the disks (which sometimes can prevent the NAS from booting).

Also check the LAN led status on the NAS and your router/switch.

That cannot be done.  The factory default (reset) formats the disks and installs linux and application software on them.  It does nothing when disks are not installed.

A USB recovery can be done with the disks removed - though I don't think it is likely to accomplish anything if RAIDar can't find the NAS with the disks removed.

And maybe it goes without saying, but try both ports on the NAS, another cable, and another port on the router/switch.  If you have a switch in the mix, perhaps also try connecting directly to the router.

Thanks for the reply, I have tested it with known good network connections but to be safe have used a few different ones but still no luck

Hey thanks for the reply, here is some follow up info.

Both LAN ports have been tested and neither seem to get a connection. I have confirmed the connection works on other devices.

Unfortunately this device is also out of warranty / support.

My testing has been primarily without the disks connected and I get no results from ReadyCLOUD by searching the network and the serial number. RAIDar does not see the device without disks either.

Could you explain a bit more about the USB recovery process as I think it may be worth a try before mounting the disks.

      Thank you
