*ANOTHER* Win 7 x64 and Accessing Shares Issue (Ultra 4)
So I'm seeing plenty of people unable to access ReadyNAS shares from Windows PC's for what appears to be a variety of reasons but typically related to access restrictions/permissions...
I find myself in the same situation and am chasing some clarity on how to configure the ReadyNAS so it works...
My set-up is as follows;
ReadyNAS Ultra 4
RAIDiator 4.2.16
Windows 7 Ultimate (x64)
I have a share called 'TestFolder' and a user named 'TestUser'... I'd like to restrict access to TestFolder to TestUser only - to do this, I've currently set the following parameters on the NAS;
Share Protocols: CIFS only
CIFS Config: "Default Access" = Disabled, "Read-only Users & Groups" = nil, "Write-enabled Users" =TestUser, Everything Else = default settings
Advanced Options: "Share folder owner" = TestFolder, "Share folder group:" = nogroup, "Share folder group rights" = read/write, "Share folder everyone rights" = disabled, Everything Else = default settings
I've also changed the Local Security Policy (NTLMv2) settings as suggested by Netgear, ensured Share->Windows credentials are different and disabled "Private home shares for users" under User and Group Account Preferences...
BUT;
Attempting to map this share (\\readynas\testfolder) using the TestUser credentials fails (consistently prompted for credentials)
Attempting to map this share using the admin credentials fails (consistently prompted for credentials)
Attempting to access this share via explorer prompts for credentials but subsequently fails with "Windows cannot access... You do not have permission to access...etc" and no further prompt for credentials
My only success with mapping shares is with a public share using the admin credentials (not recommended)...
If anyone has a resolution or suggestion it would be most appreciated... thanks

- Windza1AspirantUpdate: Bizarrely (at least from my POV), if I change the "Share folder owner" setting to 'TestUser' the share becomes accessible without any credentials??? And in case anyone's wondering, I've dbl checked the credential manager and deleted ANY reference to the NAS and also performed the cmdline "net use /delete *" to rid of any saved credentials...
- mpjbayAspiranti have the same issues and it is really starting to piss me off.

Expect about as much support as I received in this thread :roll:
I can't provide any help sorry - as far as I know the issue still exists, I gave up and started using public folders basically... - kappyAspirantTry adding the hostname of the NAS in the username field when prompted for credentials. ie, hostname/username

I'm confused about your setting "Share Folder Owner" to TestFolder. This needs to be a user name. Setting it to TestUser would seem correct. Also, if your windows username is TestUser and the password on windows is the same as the TestUser password on the NAS, then it should let you right in without prompting for a password since Windows automatically supplies it. If the passwords are different it should prompt you. Sorry if I'm misunderstanding something.
steve - tbartonAspirantI have the same issue. The NAS is on a domain. Using Win7 64bit. If the logged in users account doesn't have permissions to a folder on the NAs they are not prompted for a login simily get this error:
"You do not have permission to access [THE SERVER FOLDER PATH NAME]. Contact your network administrator to request access."
