Anyone else having issues with NTFS USB3 External HDD? OS 6.4.2

When running OS6.2.4 everything was running fine, but after the upgrade to OS6.4.2 I can no longer use my NTFS formatted USB3 drive.

If I format as FAT32 all looks fine, however as NTFS a 1.5TB drive is only detected as a 7.8GB drive and no data is written to the USB drive, but I can see the files in /media/USB_HDD_x, even when disconnected.

Once working as FAT32 I formatted through the ReadyNAS GUI and reverted back to NTFS with the same problem.  I did upgrade VirtualBox at the same time to 5.0.16 if it makes a difference.

Thanks

  • So funny story, I've just fixed this while I was fixing my virtualbox issue.

I *think* the issue was the same caused by busybox-kmod.

So I removed busybox-kmod and installed just kmod.  That fixed virtualbox and now I just noticed my USB drive is working but I was still having issues an hour ago.

PS, this is for OS6.5.0 BETA 2.  The same fix may work with 6.4.2 but I'm not going to try to roll back to test.

    Hi cmassey,

Will you give the latest 6.5.0 (Beta2) Firmware a try and let us know if you will experience the same behavior? Also, run the disk-error checking tool while your external USB hard drive is connected to your PC.

    Kind regards,

Sure why not.  Before I do, I assume that 6.5.x will be a new kernel so I would need the NETGEAR Open Source Code for Programmers (GPL).

Yep ran the check tool with no error, currently working perfectly fine in FAT32 (apart from the FAT32 limitations), just goes stupid when I format as the drive as NTFS.

      Cheers

    Ah.

I can ask engineering if they can provide kernel sources.
