Apps not appearing in frontview

I'm fine as long as I can understand what I'm doing. I'm familiar with the command line in windows, and understand this is similar... I just research what I'm doing before I do it. As far as whether or not I should HAVE to SSH in to get the machine working is my real concern. I'm not doing anything remotely unusual with it that should require me to SSH in, really. Of course, it's a technical device, and I expect it to be more than a typical person to set-up I also understand glitches here and there, and I've been pretty good about the factory resets, which take enormous amounts of time... As long as I can get this thing working this time, I'll be happy. Like I say, it's not unusual to want RAID6 and a few apps. Really, there's only 5 apps I'm interested in. Plex, Transmission, sickbeard, owncloud (though, that's more to supplement features that were just added) and perhaps the Photos II app. Though, I've never been able to get that last one working. It doesn't sound, to me, to be anything really unusual.
