How do I set the Readynas to Power On after a power loss? It is very annoying that I cannot figure this out. It would be nice to be able to set it to "Power On", "Last State", or "Power OFF" after a power outage, like you can with a PC Workstation or Server type device. It would be really useful for unattended locations.If this feature isn't available, when will it be?Thanks, Pete

The scenario where the NAS starts up itself is when there was no clean shutdown, and the power is then restored. Personally I agree there should be an exposed setting for that. I imagine it would be possible to manually tweak the bios, though I have never attempted that.If someone is intending their NAS to remain off after an outage with no shutdown (and then put stuff on top of it), I'd think they would unplug it. So I am not really getting the fire-hazard aspect - it seems to be a stretch.

I believe this should happen in the x86 readynas units, but not if the unit shuts down cleanly when a UPS is present.I agree that one should expect this to happen, particularly if the shutdown is "clean"

Hi StephenBThe power on after power loss is, at least according to this thread, normal behaviour:viewtopic.php?f=64&t=60594I wonder if there is a ups available that could provide a signal to the NAS to power on when mains power is restored. The return of mains power does this. I guess it would require some sort of WOL packet from the ups. Alternatively some more configuration of the ups settings may be feasible where a user could specify an attempt at powering on after a period of time that reflects local power outage durations. Power outages here are exceedingly rare and when they occur they are invariably very short. My NAS shuts down at 30% ups power so there would theoretically be sufficient reserve to accommodate one attempt at powering on.

A. It is my backup NAS and I only have it turned on once a week. But, if the power goes while the unit is turned off, it still turns on when the power is restored. Annoying, dangerous, and illegal...

@Evan; I am getting impatient here. It has now happened twice in the last months that I am coming home to a running NAS system. Unfortunately I live in a newly developing residential area and there is a ton of construction going on.

I was told it was development point, and that it would be in the next update, so when is it?

Is there any plan (in OS4 or OS6) to make the functionality that the user can decide about automatic power-on - enable/disable?

I doubt it, that would require BIOS defaults changed.

That's OK. That's just a lawsuit waiting to happen, and here in Denmark there is significantly better consumer protection than in the US... and it is generally much easier, as the burden of proof is on the vendor, that it was not with malicious intent, and that they spent resources comparable to their size on rectifying the problem. If they have been notified, and they have, it is a slam dunk. I know - I work in the legal profession.
