Backup apps and data and restore to NEW NAS
Okay - I wasn't sure if this should go in the "Backup" thread, the "Apps" thread, or the "Installation" one, so If one the the admins wants to move it, please feel free.
I have a new RN104 coming in today to replace a RMA'd RN104. I have backups of all my data (x2), but I'm also running a few apps that I need to migrate to the new unit. I have no problem reinstalling the apps, but my main concern is that I have a pretty large MySQL database that I use for Kodi (XBMC). How do I back-up the database and get that onto the new NAS?

- NhellieVirtuosoAs far as I know you can just insert the drives on the new NAS (make sure they are on the same order as on the old one). The OS of the NAS and config are saved on the drives so I don't think there is a need to backup the config as long as the drives are good. Make sure though that the new chassis will have the same FW as the old chassis.
- euphosAspirantThat's what I initially planned to do, but decided now was as good a time as any to do a factory reset. I see a export option while in PhpMyAdmin, but it doesn't seem to work, so I'm looking for other methods.
- NhellieVirtuosoAh I see, I think you can use this guide.

Not really a 100% sure about the database though but there is an option to copy everything. - vandermerweMasterConfig backup won't backup apps or their databases.
The only way I can see that this will be possible is using ssh.
The mysqldump command seems to be what you need to export the database. Then you need to move it to another location and import it once you have setup the new app.
I suppose you could also move the entire directory.
Exact commands you need are something you'll need to research. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserFWIW You can back up \\NASNAME\data\.apps without SSH (it is visible from windows explorer).
- euphosAspirantThanks StephenB, but I don't see any files in there that might be the Kodi database. One weird thing is, I see a share (XBMC) that is about 3.8 TB in the main NAS directory in Windows, but there's also another in the \data directory, again about 3.8TB. What's this? Is there a mirror of my shares happening? Both seem up to date with the latest files I've added.
Confused.
But I decided until I can figure out how to backup my Kodi database in MySQL, I'll just put the disks in the new unit. I have a 5TB disk coming tomorrow, to replace the last 3TB one in the unit, and I'll do the factory reset after I get this Kodi backup figured out. - StephenBGuru - Experienced User
.apps is a hidden folder - you will only see if if you have windows set up to show hidden files.euphos wrote: Thanks StephenB, but I don't see any files in there that might be the Kodi database.
Just another path to the share. \data is the full volume.euphos wrote: One weird thing is, I see a share (XBMC) that is about 3.8 TB in the main NAS directory in Windows, but there's also another in the \data directory, again about 3.8TB. I have hidden set to visible, but the directories and files I see don't seem to have the database files at that location. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThat would depend on the app and which version you have installed.

Yes. I don't have Kodi installed, so I don't know where its database is.mdgm wrote: That would depend on the app and which version you have installed.
Apps should use data/.apps, since it is not good practice to use a lot of storage in the OS partition.
