Backup business stuff to nas at home
Hi,
I want to backup my business stuff to a nas/server at home to be safe in case of fire.
So that would mean backing up through the internet. Initial backup would be around 50 Gig, and after that incremental
smaller backup's.
Can you recommend which model i should consider? What should i look for and what should i avoid? I have no clue...

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhat would be best is to purchase two NAS units. This way you could have both an on-site and off-site backup. I would put both NAS units at the office initially for the full backup and then take the off-site backup NAS home. I recommend getting a couple of Pro Series devices and using ReadyNAS Replicate (http://www.readynas.com/replicate).
If you want to stick to one NAS, what are you running on the machine that stores your business stuff (Windows/Mac OS X/Linux)?
Regardless of which option you choose for your needs the Pro 2 (RNDP2000) would be fine.
By how much does your data tend to change between backups?
Welcome to the forum! - Killbill1AspirantThanks for you recommendation, i'll look into it.
In the office i work on a intel mac pro, at home on a macbook. So i prefer not to have an extra computer
at home for backup purphases only.
Data change per day will be around 5 gig's. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retired5GB is a lot of data to backup each night. Do you mean 5GB of new data. You'd need a pretty decent internet quota and quite a high upload speed to backup that each night.
If you were maxing out a 1Mbit upload connection 100KB/s = roughly 6MB per minute = 360 MB/hour = roughly 15 hours to backup 5GB of data.
I'd be inclined to use Rsync over SSH with a Pro Series device. You can look at the ReadyNAS article on Rsync over SSH. - PidslyAspirant

Will the Rsync via SSH work between and Readynas Duo and a Pro 2?
