Backup not working
I haven't run my regular backup jobs for a month. In that time I have:
Replaced disk #1 after failure & resynced
Replaced disk #2 after failure & resynced
Upgraded to version 4 of FrontView
None of my previously existing Remote: Windows (NAS/Timestamp) backup jobs work. I get an "unable to access remote share" error.
I have tried:
1) Resetting up the backup job - still get "unable to acess" error
2) Swapping forward slashes for back slashes - still get error
3) Verified the backup locations are reachable from other locations on my Windows network.
Attached is a snippet from one of my backup jobs. Any help would be appreciated:

ewok wrote: Thanks for the logs. Try switching the protocol to cifs-ab and running the backup job again. It will still fail, but it might give us a more detailed error report (cifs and cifs-ab use different backends). Feel free to post the log from the cifs-ab run if that's easier than sending logs again.

Andrew - ewokNETGEAR ExpertMaybe we'd be better off working backwards from the simplest possible case on. Try directly connecting the NAS to your PC with static IP addresses. Turn off all firewalling, network security features, etc. Create a new folder on the PC with the name aaa and share it with no access restrictions. Then try running a backup job against that share. Let me know the results.
- ajwhAspirantAhah! aaa worked. SO- I tried changing the share name of the C drive to "C-root" and it is working!
So it looks as if it is something to do with the naming of the share....
Thanks
Andrew - ajwhAspirantSpoke too soon!
The job crashed with error message of:

Backup failed. Sat Aug 16 17:25:00 WEST 2008.
Reason for failure:

Andrew - ewokNETGEAR ExpertAre you using the login credentials for the Administrator user on the source share machine? Give that a try if you are not already doing so.
- arnie1AspirantHi all,
What was the resolution for this issue because i got the same problem. Test connection works fine. It says its able to connect (i've tried to put a folder that doesn't exist and it failed so i know the test connection works). The share is accessible from my other machine but when the backup job starts it fails. This has only happened since my firmware upgrade and is causing a real nuisance :(

I've tried using the ip, dns name, ssh to the box to ping the dns name and the ip. All seems ok but the backup job is failing.
Regards - ewokNETGEAR ExpertWhich version of the firmware are you using? Try upgrading to 4.1.3 if you have not already done so.
- arnie1Aspiranti was trying to backup the nas before i done the ugrade of the firmware but do you recommend i just do the upgade?
i'm using 4.01c1p2 - ewokNETGEAR ExpertIf you feel more comfortable with a backup before upgrading the firmware, here are a couple of things you can try:
1. I'm not sure what your backup destination is, but if it's a PC, you can do a simple drag and drop to back it up.
2. I believe that version of the firmware had occasional problems with shares that did not require a username and password to connect. Try adding a username and password to the destination share and adjusting the backup job accordingly.
Otherwise, you can just do the upgrade, it should be safe. - arnie1AspirantOk i took the plunge and upgraded the firmware...
good news and bad....good - no more connection errors on backup - they actually work now BUT they fail shortly after with the following error:
"cp: cannot overwrite non-directory `/job_001/xxxxxx' with directory `./xxxxxx'"
This happens for all scheduled jobs. I tried creating a new share, passwords e.t.c same thing :(
any ideas????
