Bench Testing Hard Drives Before Installation
How do users test hard drives before installation in a ReadyNAS? I test my WD RE drives by mounting the drive in a Win XP box, then NTFS format. Sometimes I use WD Diagnostics tool to read all secto...
I usually do a long test with WDC Lifeguard (or Seatools) before putting them in the NAS. Odds of failure are low, but I'd rather not see issues turn up when I start the RAID restriping in the NAS.
Its best not to format them though - sometimes that confuses the NAS.
