best disk format for USB backup attached to ReadyNAS Pro 2??

Have an Imation RDX USB disk enclosure attached to a ReadyNAS Pro 2, 2011 model.

Presently running a backup, many thousands of small files, running very very slow...almost 20 hours to backup 120 GB!!

The RDX disk is presently formatted NTFS, would Ext3 be better??

Thank you, Tom

EXT3 would be much quicker, but you'd need to install 3rd party drivers on your PC if you wanted to read it on that (assuming of course that your PC is running Windows not Linux).

Under System > Performance have you enable fast USB writes?

Just interested to know what firmware you're running.
  • I know about the ext3 file reading but the USB can be connected to any of our ReadyNAS devices and read that way.
I am indeed using ext3 and I did turn on fast USB writes.
This is for daily 'last resort' files backups if some server backup goes skrookoo, ton of data to transfer, sigh.
    Thank you, Tom
