Can you format USB drive + what type of backup
Hi ,
I have a Readynas NV+ v2
Is there any way to format an external USB-drive via the dashboard?
You can set the frequency of the full backup but how do you know if it is differential or incremental backup?
Thanks,
johk

You cannot format the USB from the dashboad, but putting the USB in a computer you can format it with FAT/FAT32 and our system will read the USB. You can choose if you want the job to be a full backup or incremental from the "add new backup job" under the "Backup" section. By reviewing the logs you can see if it was an incremental or full backup. - johkAspirantThanks,
It is a seagate usb drive - it can't be opened.
Everytime I try to view the backup logs I get the followng error - in IE and mozilla - Script: https://192.168.0.2/admin/extjs/ext-all.js:7 .
The scripts just stops and lock the whole browser.
Cheers,

Not sure what you mean it can't be opened. Do you mean it cannot be accessed from the ReadyNAS? Have you tried connecting the drive to your computer? To see if the ReadyNAS is detecting the USB drive plug it in and then log-in into the admin GUI and go to "Volumes/USB Storage" and it will tell you if it is detecting the drive or not. If not make sure it's formatted correctly.
As for the script error are you accessing the ReadyNAS locally (from the same network) or remotely (over the internet)? If locally you may need to do an OS Re-install. - johkAspirantHi,
The USB drive is an external seagate drive but the enclosure is sealed so I can't open it. I just deleted everything on the drive and I am now using it as a backup drive.
I am accessing the the readynas locally ie from the same network. I will do a backup and the re-install the firmware.
Thanks,

I understand now about the USB drive. When you plug the USB drive into the ReadyNAS, go to the Web Interface and check under Volumes/USB Storage and see if it is being detected by the ReadyNAS. If it is, you should be able to backup to it. If not try a different USB port on the ReadyNAS. If none of the ReadyNAS USB ports show the drive you will probably need to reformat the drive by connecting the USB Drive to your computer (via USB cable to computer).
As for the re-installing the OS it does NOT hurt your data it only replaces files in the OS partitions. Please use the link below:
