Can't access ReadyNAS Duo v1 with Windows 7

I recently upgraded a Dell Vostro 1710 laptop from Windows XP to 7, and I can no longer browse to the ReadyNAS Duo v1 via Windows Explorer (or whatever it is now called). I AM able to view the ReadyNas through IE and successfully log into it via FrontView. RAIDar works on the laptop.

The router is a Netgear DGN1000 and I believe that it is set up as a DCHP (floating IPs) server. It is running the lastest firware: 4.1.10. I tried 4.1.09 also without luck. Discs are 58% full. The ReadyNAS Duo has always been very slow to navigate via the network, which is made up of Windows XP computers only. Once you open the share/drive however, the transfer speeds were sufficient.

I have 5 shares on the ReadyNAS. they all have the same security settings, which I believe are the "fullest" access:

- CIFS
- default access: read/write
- guest access allowed
- oplocks disabled

I receive this error when clicking on READYNAS_DUO_1 via Windows Explorer:

\\READYNAS_DUO_1 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. contact the Administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Login failure: account currently disabled.

The user on the Win 7 laptop has admin privileges. The laptop is setup for network discovery, although this seems to turn off on its own.

I would like to upgrade other PCs on this network to Windows 7 (3 pack from Amazon) but I want to make sure that I can access the ReadyNAS.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions or advice.

Cheers,
Eric Lee

What logon / password are you using to access the shares? Is there a NAS user configured that has the same name / password?
  • I don't have any users on the ReadyNAS. I haven't needed them to connect with winXP computers. I did try setting up users on the ReadyNAS as an earlier unsuccessful attempt to connect with this Win 7 machine, but then deleted them. Should I use the same login name / password on the ReadyNAS as I use to log into the Win 7 machine? Since it's a home machine, I don't use any password to login to the Win 7 machine. do I need to create one?

    thanks!

If you are using the normal "user" security mode for the NAS, then you should be using a logon with the NAS. By default, Windows 7 will present the credentials used to log into Windows.

You can override that by entering the credentials you want into the Windows Credential Manager (in control panel). You can specify the NAS admin account / password - however if the Windows logon is also "admin" then Windows will still require you to re-enter the logon/password on every bootup.
