Can't use backup process.

Hey everyone,

I have a weird problem and i hope that someone will be able to help me on this.

I'm not understanding verything clearly about networking in general but, in the past, i managed to make my ReadyNas work and backup two directories on my computer to the NAS.

Now, it's not working anymore on my Windows 8.1 (it didn't work on my previous Windows 10 system either).

What i did :

-i created a user called NAS on my computer and granted him full acess to the directory that i want to backup.

-I created a backup job and use this user to connect to my computer.

-i setup all the informations including the directory where i want to store the files on the nas

- then i used the "Test connection" button and it says that everything is ok (great !)

But everytime i try to launch the backup, no matter what i experiment, i always have that message : "Source cannot be mounted on the system ", and i realy have no idea what to do to resolve this. I mean, i'm not good with networdking stuffs but i think the way i did was good, was it ?

Does someone has a solution for me ? Or maybe could tell me what i'm doing wrong ?

Thanks for reading this and have a nice day.

Did you remember to share that directory on the PC?  Windows has both file permissions and network access permissions.  So you do need to share the computer folder, and make sure that the network access on that share allows the NAS user to access it remotely.  There is a guide here that might be useful: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/29766

What firmware is your RN102 running?

      Thanks for you reply !

My ReadyNAS 102 is running the 6.5.2 firmware.

Thanks for the link. I think i didn't make the directory accessible remotely. I'm going to investigate and come back if i don't make any progress.

      Thank you !

I didn't manage to make it work.

I did everything they say in the link you gave me but in vain, still have the same issue.

The weird thing is that when i use the test button, it tells me that everything is ok.

I have no idea what to do now.

  • I have been using a Windows 10 PC to backup specific files onto a Readynas 102.  All was fine until I upgraded the Readynas to OS 6.5.2.  I  have checked and rechecked all settings but still cannot complete a back-up.  When I conduct a backup, the status indicates "in-process" and never reaches completion.  What's up with this upgrade?  Any fixes out there?.

What tools are you using to do the backup?  Windows Backup? ReadyCloud,  ReadyNAS backup job?

Also, can you access the NAS backup folder with Windows File Explorer?

        Thanks,

i am using ReadyNas Backup to copy photos from the pc to archive on ReadyNas. I can see and access folders from my PC and can manually move files from The PC to storage.  The backup function doesn't work and nothing gets copied. I also tried it the other way, using the PC as a backup for the ReadyNas. Same result, nothing happens.

        Any thoughts?
