Carving out NFS shares (1 for ESXi 4.0 and for file backup)
Dear All,
The datacenter where the current NAS is running out of space and currently using beyond the power allocated for the rented rackspace.
Hence the decision to purchase the device below:
6-slot network storage-enabled desktop ReadyNAS ® Ultra6 iSCSI 6TB model (2TB × 3) RNDU6320
http://www.netgear.jp/products/details/RNDU6320.html
My plans are as follows:
- Carve out a RAID 5 volume
- Create 2 NFS shares, one for vmware ESXi which will be used to create a new virtual disk with about 1TB space and the other share will be used for backup of files and exchange database.
I would like to confirm if this is feasible.
Thank you for your envisaged response
Regards
Dave

- chirpaLuminaryIf its rack space, why not use a rackmount ReadyNAS (1-2U, but costs more)? The Ultra is a desktop platform, will take up at least 4U in a rack sitting sideways, around 6-7U standing up naturally.
