CIFS sets new folders to Everyone Read only
ReadyNAS Ultra 2 w/ RAIDiator-x86 v4.2.27.
Since the update to v4.2.27, new folders get everyone = read, owner = full permissions.
This is incorrect, as when I look at the CIFS settings, they're set to:
Automatically set permissions on new files and folders. = ON
Do not allow ACL changes to be more restrictive than this. = ON
When new files are created over CIFS, set file permission as follows. Group rights are permission for members of the file owner's group. Everyone refers to all other users not in the file owner's group.
Group rights: Read/Write
Everyone rights: Read/Write
When new folders are created over CIFS, set folder permission as follows. Group rights are permission for members of the folder owner's group. Everyone refers to all other users not in the folder owner's group.
Group rights: Read/Write
Everyone rights: Read/Write
These settings have been fine for years, but since this last update, if anyone creates a new folder, noone else can access it until I run a "Set ownership and permission for existing files and folders in this share to the above settings. This option is useful in cases where you are changing security levels and need to workaround file access problems."
What's going on here?

- LiFersTutorOK, seems that the ReadyNAS decided to change the share folder permissions as it saw fit.
Browsed via CIFS, logged in as Admin, opened /c/ and reset the permissions for the share folder, then overwrite all subfolder permissions, etc.
Seems happy for now. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserYou can also do this from frontview - the control is on the advanced page for the share.

Doesn't work. It sets subfolders of the share to the correct permissions, but not the share itself, so the next new subfolder has the wrong permissions again. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredHave you considered setting up the ACL on the share from Windows to inherit with the permissions you require?
Perhaps somewhat similar to this (http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12261/~/setting-up-active-directory-folder-permissions-on-readynas-(x86)) except you are using User mode not AD. - LiFersTutorThat's the process I have just described which seems to have fixed the issue.
