CIFS share not working
Hi,
Have a ReadyNAS 6 Pro that is accessible through the web interface (front) and is configurable. It runs RAID 6 and should work as an accessible disk (or folders) by anyone in the network. It worked just fine for 3 weeks but all of a sudden the folders are gone. There is no data on the disks yet so no harm done in that respect. The access is done through Windows 7 Ultimate x64. The NAS is updated to the latest FW (4.2.20)and raidar are version 4.3.4. We have set it to use security level "workgroup" and gave guests permission to write and read in the folders. Two folders are on the disk "media" and "backup". Both have CIFS and HTTP switched on. It isn't possible to map the folders either and the "browse" button in raidar gives error 0x80070035. The connection passes a switch but no other computers have problems with the switch (it allows all traffic). All firewalls are disabled as it is a closed network.
Edit: It is on a fixed IP and not conflicting with any other devices.
Have tried resetting the NAS, rebooting everything, upgrading firmware on the NAS without any luck. I am at my wits end here. It worked just fine as I said for about 3 weeks (luckily we didn't have time to setup the backup system to it). Could there be a windows update that did this? Some failure in the NAS? Any help is appreciated.
Edit: Spent another day reasearching the fault. Moved the nas to connect directly to a client with no change in behaviour. Reinstalled OS on NAS without luck. Still no access to folders. Connected an USB dock with 2 HDD but they are not visible either. Starting to break even here on simply throwing it in the bin and ordering something else.

- SkywarpTutorIf the data isn't an issue, you can do an Factory Default, that will clear the whole configuration and recreate the volume as well:

Or are they truly gone (missing from Frontview, not viewable from https://NAS/shares) - FelstrikerAspirantHave done factory default without any success. Have reset it, upgraded it etc.
Yes Windows 7 does not see them. They are visible in frontview in the share section (and set to CIFS and allow guest access), however I am not able to browse the folders using raidar.
Edit: No I cannot see the shares using the webadress https:.... The web interface says they are not reachable. - FelstrikerAspirantUpdate: I got the webinterface working so that I can access the folders there. I still would like CIFS to work though as it is the main protocol that will be used in the network.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserTry accessing them from Windows using the NAS admin logon/password. If that works, you likely have a permission problem.
- FelstrikerAspirantSorry doesn't work with those credentials either
- FelstrikerAspirantOk I have identified the problem and it actually has nothing to do with the NAS at all. Interestingly enough the DNS server malfunctioned somehow and did not resolve the names correctly to the IP adresses. This caused the name of the NAS to be translated into an IP that didn't exist or was wrong. I have no idea what caused this and I am still investigating. It worked fine for a month but all of a sudden decided to do this. I appologize for thinking this was the NAS but it was actually the only thing that didn't work... or so I thought.
- FelstrikerAspirantDid some investigating and even reinstalled the server with DHCP/DNS. Nothing helps. The DNS problem is gone however and all names resolve correctly but I still can't see the shares. I wonder if it was the dhcp service on the nas that somehow started. Didn't start it in the interface though as I can't see any other explanation for the erranous IP/names. Really can't find a solution to this and I will contact the reseller tomorrow for an exchange of the NAS. It just costs too much money trying to figure out what is wrong with it.
Another funny thing is that while it worked allright it didn't show the connected USB disks in shares even though it was told to do that. Perhaps it was when those were connected the problems started. It's a standard 2 HDD USB disk with 2 brand new WD disks. Works just fine on other computers or servers. The nas recognized it fine but never shared them. And then it decided to remove the shares for the folders also for some reason.
