Connectivity issues from different subnet

Recently we've been having issues with connectivity to our NAS when connecting from another subnet.  We have two networks, 192.168.5.x and 192.168.10.x, and the NAS is on .5.x.  Users on .5.x have zero issues, but users on .10.x complain of a multitude of issues from errors when moving or copying files to errors when loading files from the NAS.  Copying anything to a users local system eliminates those errors, and connecting their computer to the .5.x network also eliminates these issues.  Moving everyone to .5.x is not possible.  My other thought was to put the second NIC on the NAS on the .10.x subnet and pointing their drive map to that one, but I'm not even certain the NAS can handle that.  I need an answer as to why this would happen.  Nothing was changed in our network setup prior to this, and the only thing I could think that would bring this about was the recent firmware update to 6.5.1 done about 1 month ago.  Does anyone have any suggestions on this?

I understand that you suspect that the antivirus feature of the gateway you use may be the root cause in how it checks cifs/smb packets.

Is the gateway address on the NAS correct (255.255.255.0)?  I'm also wondering if you might have an IP address conflict.

If those are ruled out, then it seems more likely to be a router or switch issue.  Do you have any way to gather stats on the connection path?  If not, you could try running an extended ping test of the NAS from the 10.x subnet..

Gateway is correct, as users on the .10.x network do see the nas.  It is just when opening or modifying files do these issues occur.

I ran a ping test from that network overnight and the highest ping time I saw was 102ms with the majority being <1ms-3ms and an occasional one in the teens and 20 ms range.

Understood. But the router (or switches) on the path could be creating some packet loss that is only seen by the .10.x network users.

Are you using bonding in the NAS?

Perhaps also run that test during working hours.
