Convert DVD to Xbox
Hi,
I have my own DVD's of birthdays etc, which were all made on Pinnacle - so are in VOB format.
I would like to make these work on the xbox - via the NAS (Duo V2).
I have tried several ways, using Handbrake or Videora. but they all seem fairly naff, slow and poor quality.
Is there a pucker piece of software to use that will do the job with minimal quality losses ??

- Kojak1AspirantHas anyone ever heard of or used DVD-Ranger ?
- Not heard of that one Kojak, but that's because I've been happily using Handbrake (free), Format Factory (free) for encoding/decoding. And I use MagicISO/MagicDisc (not free) to mount/convert image files for easy access, and to allow Handbrake/FF do it's thing. This has worked for years for me, so I've never really bothered to look for alternatives as they work, are free, and simple to use.
I also install the K-Lite Codec pack which seems to cover most bases. (Free) - Kojak1Aspirant

Hi,
I had left the whole video conversion thing for a while now - never really seemed to fully get there.!!
However, I really do need to get it sorted now.
I converted some video using Handbrake. And as far as I can see, there are just two snags:
1) the video screen size is quite small and I cant seem to increase it.
2) the video playback looks like it needs de-interlacing, but I am not sure how.
I did also try the conversion using FormatFactory, and I get the same interlaced playback - but the quality seems worse on here.
I put my hands up, and I dont fully understand all the techno jargon.
I just want to convert the video to playback on DNLA devices, such as xbox, iPad, Samsung TV.
Any help (in laymans terms) would be great.
Cheers
Chris - sphardy1ApprenticeIf you are trying to rip DVDs to their original format size, then simply select the "Normal" or (for better quality) "High Profile" preset. See here - I inserted a DVD I had to hand, selected the "Normal" preset and the output is shown to be the same as the input (excluding a little trimming to get rid of small black bars that many DVDs have)

If that results in a "smaller screen size" then there is something in the playback that is wrong, not with Handbrake.
As for deinterlacing - the Handbrake manual has a complete section:

Hiya,
I am trying to convert .avi files on my NAS - which are basically camcorder video of kids birthdays, christmas, holidays etc.
I do also need to do DVD's at some point, so will look at that too.
But for now, its just the "home movies".
If I make the camcorder video into a DVD, it plays full screen. But if I convert to MP4 using handbrake, it keeps a small size (something like 720x4??)
I will read the link you provided now too. Cheers for that,.
