Copy instead of move from external storage?
Hi All, I'm copying a load of data onto my 314 via the eSATA connection.
The default function is moving the data so that the external disk doesn't contain the data after it's complete.
Is there a way to copy the data instead so i have a backup on the original disk?

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredHow are you trying to copy the data? Using Windows Explorer? Some other method?
- it's an external drive plugged into the eSATA connection of the NAS.
Then i'm using the WebUI -> shares screen to browser the external drive then drag the folder/files from the external drive to a share on the NAS.
Dragging and dropping is, by default a copy operation in Windows so I assumed it would be the same but the data is no longer on the external drive - If you right-click on the folder you will see "copy". After you click it, paste will appear when you right-click.
- Thanks Stephen, i'll try that next time. Just not used to using right-click in browser apps.
One would think though that they would keep the normal 'copy s default' methodology. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThanks Andreas.
I have passed on your request.
I agree that copying data between volumes is much safer than simply moving.
