Copying from the ReadyNAS Duo to the same ReadyNAS Duo

When I copy data from a share on my ReadyNAS Duo to the same share on my ReadyNAS Duo, it is incredibly slow. I am assuming that this is because it is copying data from the RND across my network to my Windows PC (already a slow process) and then back across the network to my RND. Is there a way that I can do this so that the data never leaves the ReadyNAS?

Thank you

  • You can install a file manager type add-on from the add-on section. Since those run directly on the ReadyNAS they should do what you want.

  • Not reilly for I tend to do such stuff directly on the NAS using an SSH shell and Midnight Commander (mc).

  • Can you not just run a Backup job, within Frontview, and backup say, NAS1/folder1 to NAS2/folder2, or am I misunderstanding?

It was how I backup up circa 1tb of data from my Old NAS to new NAS. (I used NFS protocal, to speed it up a bit.) Therefore, no Windows computers are involved, it just networks traffic between the two NAS units.

Edit, I see you mean on one NAS, not 2, but I think the same still applies basically. A backup job can copy one share, to say the "backup" share for example, which I believe keeps the copy centrally on the NAS, and doesn't thrash back and forth to an unneeded Windows PC across the network.
  • Thanks
I can see that could have some use. I think that a file manager would be a good solution though.
