creating a website connected to an Airport Extreme

Hello,
I followed the personal webserver instructions a http://www.readynas.com/?p=213 and I get to step 3 (http://<readynas_ip> ) and that works, I can see my website. However, the step 4 says to forward port 80 so that http://<public_ip> works. However, the Airport Extreme (last years model) doesn't really have something that easy to forward a single port that I have found. I saw a post to set it up as a DMZ, but that doesn't seem to work. I have 'enable default host at' checked in the internet/nat tab, but can't figure out what else to try. I just let my hosting lapse because I want to host my site on my NV+ but I can't figure it out and now of course a few people are asking to see my site. Go figure.

Any suggestions on how to get the Airport Extreme to port forward 80, or play nice as the DMZ.

Side note, I have a Motorolla modem that connects to the AE and it's wide open, all ports, nothing blocked. So it's my AE that I have to configure.

Thanks.

  • Ensure connection sharing (under "Internet -> Internet Connection") is set to "Share a public IP addess", and then select the option "Advanced -> Port Mappings" and setup forwarding of port 80 there
  • I have share public IP already selected and in the port forwarding I have port 80 as personal web share. Any other ideas?
  • Provided the port forwarding settings are correct, that's all you should need

Post a screenshot of the settings if you would like them checked out. If they are correct, then I'd be inclined to suspect the modem as the cause of the issue
  • I got it working. I read in another thread that the port forward tab needs to point to the ip of the readynas, but I had also read on Apple's boards to leave it as the default like 10.0.1.201. I just removed the extra digits and matched the readynas at 10.0.1.2 and it works! Thanks for your help.
  • Well, for some reason this is no longer working. Now when I go to 'share public IP' under internet, and finish the setup, I get a DHCP error because the beginning and ending IP are similar. Not sure what has happened since February, but I can no longer access the NAS off my local network.
