Drive Lost after 5.3.11 update
ReadyNas Duo+. I updated the firmware to the latest 5.3.11 and on reboot of the NAS one of the drives(volumes) is not recognized and the blue light is flashing. I was able to reboot the NAS and do a volume scan, but it did not come back.
What options do I have here? Is there some way to attach the drive to my Win7 PC and run some kind of recovery program on it? Is there something I can try on the NAS itself?

So long as you maintain good backups the filesystem shouldn't be an issue. Most NAS units run on Linux. Filesystems such as EXT4 and more recently BTRFS on our ReadyNAS OS devices are used.
It sounds like for the internal drive at least you might have encountered a rare software issue, though equally if the logs show SMART errors then that would suggest a problem with the disk.
Even if you won't use the NAS for primary storage you could use it for backups. If your data is important to you don't store it on just the one device. Also make sure you make regular backups with one copy stored off-site at all times. - cwiebeAspirantI do appreciate whatever help people are trying to give me.
You are intimate with this product every day. To say 'send me the logs' doesn't help me a great deal. How do I find these logs, how do I know which of these logs I may find is the correct one, is this a menu option from radiator?
Yes, yes...I keep hearing I shouldn't rely on the product. I get that. How about this. I was wrong to think the nas wouldn't trash 3 disks with a firmware upgrade and it's all my fault. How could I have been so stupid? I mean, the product is designed as a BACKUP product. How dare I think the product would trash 3 separate discs without a peep of warning. I am so stupid.
Have I covered that off well enough? All my fault. Nothing on the engineers, I get that.
So, to get back to the issue at hand. How, and where do I find these logs? After all these reboots, is the log even valid at this point? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserPage 71 of the software manual for the duo v2 shows how to download the logs. http://www.readynas.com/download/docume ... - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou go to System > Info > Logs, click on Download Logs and email me the zip file as shown in the Sending Logs link in my signature.
You have currently Selected System > Overview - cwiebeAspirantThat makes more sense. BTW, at this point I just want to confirm I can re-format the disc - no chance of recovering any data.
There's a lot of data in this zipfile. I hope it makes sense to you.
Hmm...can't seem to figure out out how to attach a zipfile. I uploaded the log to my Google Drive.

Right. How could I have missed that! ;)
Thanks.
Sent. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredI would suggest using e.g. the WD RED disks from the compatibility list (see Legacy > ReadyNAS Duo v2 on http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/20641)
- cwiebeAspirantGood suggestion. I've had issues with Seagates recently. Anyway. 3TB disk is not recognized by BIOS in computer. I took one of the external drives and put it in the NAS and I am immediately getting Smart Errors emailed to me warning me the drive is about to fail. The 3TB is on warranty, while the 1TB is not.
The WD red drives are on sale at the local computer geek store. 139.00 for a 3TB.
