Duo v1 boots but does not recognise any disks
I had a power failure on my NAS (plug got pulled by accident) and after powering it on again it's not recognising my drives - Raidar says that the disks are Bad or Not detected. If I try to start it up with disks in the Duo it doesn't mount or cannot be see via Raidar - i just get the slow pulsating power light - if I switch it on and then put the disks in then I can get the "Bad" or "No" disk error message in Raidar.
I've even tried using a some old (still compatible) HDs I've got and they are also being listed as "Bad"or "No" disk detected. I'm sure one of them was bad, but not both.
It's only been six months since I replaced both HDs with brand new 2TB Seagate Barracudas and sadly I've haven't got around to sorting out a new backup drive for the NAS since upgrading to 2TB (I know, I know... *sigh*). But, I'm very suspicious that all 4 drives have died in such a short period of time.
right now I've removed the drives and I'm running a memory check at the moment because I don't know what else to do. I think it's just finished. Power light is still rapid and both disk lights are solid -
Raidar is 4.3.4 and I'm managing this via MacOS.
Throughout this whole process the NAS is not allowing me to login via front view.

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe Duo has a 3 year warranty. You may wish to open a support case (see Online Submission link in my sig). It's possible that your NAS chassis has failed and needs to be replaced via RMA.
- machvAspirantThanks for the reminder about the warranty - duly noted.
Last night I managed to get it to boot up with the "bad disk" in slot 2 and no disk in slot 1. I'm going to return the disk that was in slot 1 to seagate this week (once I've complied with their rigourous returns requirements) and I should get a replacement in a couple of weeks.
Do you still think it's work opening a support ticket or should I wait to see if this drive also fails? If it doesn't...are there any issues with me "just" putting the new disk in to slot 1 and expecting the synch to work it all out? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserSince you are seeing your data (on a crippled system), your first priority should be to back it up. Resync generally works, but is not guaranteed.
BTW Seagate has "self-service codes" that you can manually enter, including one that basically says "the disk doesn't work" and another that says "Apple system cannot run SeaTools" http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/supp ... codes.html
The Seagate replacement will be a refurbished disk, and generally will not be the same model that you are replacing. I suggest buying a new drive (I recommend a WDC 2 TB red for the Duo v1), and using the refurbished Seagate somewhere else. If you want to try the replacement anyway, I suggest checking the HCL and also searching this forum with the specific drive model they send you before you install it. - machvAspirantCheers Stephen - Seagate's parcel tracking and returns emails are saying that I am getting a direct replacement: a Seagate ST2000DM001 which is what I sent them (and mirrors the currently working drive in the Duo) so everything should be ok. *fingers crossed*
I agree - a backup policy and regimen is required, but I also need to stop using it as a critical usage server and go back to using it as a back up server, which is what it was purchased for.
