Duo v2 - "the permissions are incorrectly ordered" error

Duo v2 - RAIDiator 5.3.7

I am not a pro at this, so please be gentle!
I used to have no security on my ReadyNas until I realised that anyone who connected to my wireless router had full access to my files.
So, on the Security tab of the ReadyNas configuration page, I added users who I want to have access to my files (in "Users" group) and changed the share access to allow only this "Users" group to have access to the share. I had to play around with the settings under "Protocol-specific Settings" to get it to work right, after experiencing access errors and then some problems with Word & Excel read only after saving issues. Now all seems to be ok except:

Scenario:
A Windows user creates folder on the share.
Go to Folder Properties > Security Tab and get the error: "The permissions on <new folder> are incorrectly ordered, which may cause some entries to be ineffective"

Note: This does not happen when creating a new file on the share, only when creating a new folder. Existing files & folders are fine.

Share access config (same for SMB & AFP):
Users - read/write
Allow Anonymous Access - unchecked
Enable Oplocks - unchecked
Automatic Permissions - checked
Restrict ACL Changes - checked
Folder Creation Group Rights - read/write
Folder Creation Everyone Rights - read/write
File Creation Group Rights - read/write
File Creation Everyone Rights - read/write

Everything seems to work ok but this error message has me very worried.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Paul.

  • Seems need tech support to have a teamviewer session to check... Can you call the netgear support for help?
  • I seem to have found a solution:

If I create a new share with exactly the same settings as the problematic share, then copy the contents of the problematic share to the new share, everything works perfectly.
I'm not going to pretend to understand why, but the "incorrectly ordered permissions" problem seems to get sorted out when the files & folders get copied from the problematic share to the new share.

    Fingers crossed!
  • Success! Everything works perfectly after transferring the data to the newly created share. Albeit 8+ hours later.
As explained in the post below, it would be nice to have a quicker way to transfer data from one share to another.

Well, you can move data (instead of copying it) if the two shares are in the same volume. You just need to use admin credentials, and open the volume in windows explorer (or the apple equivalent). Then you can move data.

However, in your case I think you needed a copy to fix the problems - moving would have kept the existing owners/permissions, and likely would not have resolved your issue.
