"ERR NO DISK DETECTED" What is going on?

Readynas has 6 drives installed, formatted from a factory default clean install.

Its a legacy running OS6.

Each drive is 4TB X 6 drives with XRAID

I moved about 1TB of data over from my older storage into the device.

It started complaining about disk 4 having some errors, I figured I would replace it after the files completed.

The entire system disappeared from RAIDAR software and web GUI admin streen, I reset the system and it now shows

"ERR NO DISK DETECTED"

What is going on and how do I fix? So the device won't even show up on the computer but it now said there are NO hard drives in the unit?

This is extremely odd behavior from the machine.

Please help me figure out how to fix and what is going on. This should not happen.

Even if Disk 4 did go bad which is what I expect, the array data should still be available with the loss of 1 disk and the readynas should instruct me to replace Disk 4, not tell me no disk are installed on the device and unreachable via raidar software and web admin screen.

  • *** UPDATE. I unplugged it from the UPS and plugged it directly into the wall and now it seems to be working.

Maybe I need some device produce a cleaner power signal from a UPS than the standard UPS, I'm not sure.

I searched on google and other people with this issue have mentioned it might be related to a power supply?

    What do you think?

    Thanks.

It’s also possible that your UPS could be faulty or too low aspec to be able to output enough power for what the NAS needs.

      Which UPS do you have?

        Its an APC Backup 550.

However we did have a hurricane here in Florida not too long ago in 2017 and I was without power for like 12 days and I was using the UPS and small backup generator to keep my fish tank alive. So maybe the UPS is overly stressed  and not in perfect condition however I do use it for a smaller Readynas NV+(4-drive) and it has always seems to have worked just fine.

Anyway, it appears there was not enough power to turn on the hard drives. Perhaps I should get a better UPS and try that?

Right now its seem to be working fine while plugged directly into a wall but that is not a good long term solution.

        Thanks.
