External Backup Drive Working But Not Recognized?
We have 2 3TB WD External USB drives we use for backup on our ReadyNAS 312. When the drives are using 4096 bytes per sector it can cause backup problems with Windows 7 Backup, so we keep them formatted to 512 bytes-emulation per sector. We haven't been doing this until recently, and now that we have, connecting the drive to the ReadyNAS 312 brings up this system message:
We do not use Windows 7 Backup with the ReadyNAS, we just keep the drives formatted like this in case we end up using the drive on someone else's machine for backup.
We would like to know if this is any kind of a problem (it backs up completely normal). If anyone has any info on this, thanks!
System: External storage device 'WDC WD30EZRX-00D8PB0' connected, but could not find a known filesystem on it.

- Ki_Adi_MundiNETGEAR Employee Retiredseems it can't recognize the filesystem on it , what filesystem on it ? And anything in dmesg ?
- PihroAspirantIt is on NTFS with 512-byte emulation, the only change was the 4096 to the 512. Despite it not being able to recognize the filesystem, the backups still seem to work fine. I was mainly wanting to know if it not recognizing the filesystem can cause real problems now or later on.
- Ki_Adi_MundiNETGEAR Employee Retiredinteresting, the message means it can't be recognized by the NAS, so it will not be mounted, backups shouldn't work. Did I miss sth ? can you show me cmd "mount" in your nas ?

I'm not sure what you are asking for, but I can give you the logs here:System: External storage device 'WDC WD30EZRX-00D8PB0' connected, but could not find a known filesystem on it.
System: External storage device connected
And so far I haven't had a single backup problem. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhat version of ReadyNAS OS are you running?

sorry, I was thinking you are using ssh to get the logs, so want you run some shell command .
Did you see this log every time when you insert the usb to NAS ? can you see the usb share on the readynas web UI ? - PihroAspirantYes, I see this every time I connect. I can see the USB Share, yes. It works just fine.
