You should familiarise yourself with Linux commands such as cp, ls, mv, cd etc.

    To install unrar

    apt-get update && apt-get install unrar

To unrar say "fred.rar" in the "media" share.

    cd /c/media

Then use the unrar command as described in its MAN page (you can google for the MAN page).
  • Hi,

I've been trying for the past 3 days to install unrar via SSH on my ReadyNAS Duo v2. I'm using the Terminal.app on my Mac to connect through SSH.

I've updated the repo's by using the
    sudo apt-get update
command which updates my default sources.list fine.

When I try to install unrar by typing:
    sudo apt-get install unrar

    I receive the message:

"Package unrar is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'unrar' has no installation candidate"

Here is my current /etc/apt/sources.list file:

    # deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main

    deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main
    deb-src http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main

    deb http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main
    deb-src http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main

    deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ squeeze-updates main
    deb-src http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ squeeze-updates main

If anyone can help me out it really would be greatly appreciated.
  • Thank you very much for making me aware of that and it has now resolved my issue.

A note to anyone else that has this issue - ensure that you have the line:

    deb http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian sid main non-free
    in your /etc/apt/sources.list file.

    Then just run a
    sudo apt-get update
    - this will now update the new packages.

    Then type
    sudo apt-get install unrar
    and BOOM problem solved!
