- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou should familiarise yourself with Linux commands such as cp, ls, mv, cd etc.
To install unrar
apt-get update && apt-get install unrar
To unrar say "fred.rar" in the "media" share.
cd /c/media
Then use the unrar command as described in its MAN page (you can google for the MAN page). - codarz360AspirantHi,
I've been trying for the past 3 days to install unrar via SSH on my ReadyNAS Duo v2. I'm using the Terminal.app on my Mac to connect through SSH.
I've updated the repo's by using thesudo apt-get update
command which updates my default sources.list fine.
When I try to install unrar by typing:sudo apt-get install unrar
I receive the message:
"Package unrar is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package 'unrar' has no installation candidate"
Here is my current /etc/apt/sources.list file:
# deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main
deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main
deb-src http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main
deb http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main
deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ squeeze-updates main
deb-src http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ squeeze-updates main
If anyone can help me out it really would be greatly appreciated. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou would need to add lines for "non-free" in addition to your "main" ones.
unrar is in the "non-free" section. See http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/unrar
Not sure whether or not unrar would install on the Duo v2 but you could give it a try. - codarz360AspirantThank you very much for making me aware of that and it has now resolved my issue.
A note to anyone else that has this issue - ensure that you have the line:
in your /etc/apt/sources.list file.
deb http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian sid main non-free
Then just run asudo apt-get update
- this will now update the new packages.
Then typesudo apt-get install unrar
and BOOM problem solved!
