Factory default - data on 3TB drives cannot add 2TB drives
I had some issues (I think Crashplan updates filled up my root mount causing it to no longer boot) that drove me to factory default. I have updated to OS 6.7.1 while I was at it. In the process I cre...

I ended up backing up the data to an external drive and then deleting all volumes. I removed the 3 X 3TB drives and then created a new "data" volume on the 3 X 2TB drives. Once that was created I added the 3 X 3TB drives back in and the volume expanded to include them.
Thanks for your help.

Glad you could confirm that destroying the original volume will work. I thought it should, but had never actually done it.

That in the end was the BEST way to go about doing it. Always start small and then grow larger. In time you can replace those 2TB drives with 3TB drives or go even larger in size. Right now Amazon has WD Red drives 6Gig at $199. I'm temped. I'd have to buy at least 2 of them to gain any storage space as I have 6 3TB HDD now. I'm trying to hold out and wait for 8TB drives to get into the $199 price point. That may be a couple more years away. Glad you got it all fixed. Make sure you have a nice good backup as it is now, and away you go.

This IS my backup device now. I picked up a Synology DS916+ as my new main machine. Using the ReadyNAS as the rsync backup location.

If the ReadyNAS is the one controlling the rsync job, you may want to read this: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS/Rsync-broken-since-6-7-1-amp-6-7-3/m-p/1294160#M131191

Thanks for the heads up. I created several jobs for my different shares and looking at drive consumption and spot checking it looks like the rsync jobs are working correctly.
