Factory Reset - resync?
Hi, i have just performed a factory reset due to some issues with upgrades etc over time, and NFS/SMB issues. 1) Now i've booted i can see in volumes there is 34mb of data, and its "resyncing" wi...
A factory default wipes all data, settings, everything.
It wipes the disks, creates fresh partitions and installs the OS onto the 4GB OS partition on the disks. A fresh data volume is created as well
1) The NAS needs to sync the disks sector by sector to setup the RAID. This is done at a lower level than the filesystem2) That has already happened. The data volume that was on the disks been destroyed as well.

I have two 2TB disks currently and would like to add another in the coming months for backup. I believe I need to change to RAID5, should I leave X-RAID on or change to flex? I did read docs but it left me more confused :D

Leave it as xraid,. When you insert the next disk, it will automatically take care of the RAID-1 to RAID-5 conversion for you. I recommend hot-inserting (with the NAS running).
The disk needs to be at least 2 TB. If you go with a larger size, only 2 TB will be used initially - but if you add a second disk of the new size, the extra will be added to the array as well.
For exmple, if you were to insert 4 TB drives:
2x2TB -> 2 TB volume size (1.8 TiB)
2x2TB+4TB -> 4 TB volume size (3.6 TiB)
2x2TB+2x4TB -> 8 TB volume size (7.2 TiB)
The general rule is sum the disks and subtract off the largest. And new disks need to be at least the same size as the largest in the array. (If a disk fails, you can replace it with an identical size).
