Failed FrontView backup, how to fix?
Hello All,
Two days ago, I started getting this error backing up one of my shares to a USB drive via FrontView:
I downloaded all logs but I can't find anything that gives more detail than the "Reason for failure" above.
I did a spot test of the backup USB drive and it appears to be fine (no I/O errors when copying the files that fail backup). Also, there's a first backup job which copies a different share to the same USB drive and it works fine as usual. So I don't think the backup drive is failing.
Any suggestions on what's going on and how to fix?
Thanks!

- dhlLuminaryReady to do my upgrade and have been considering a slightly different strategy than I originally planned -
Instead of buying a 314 for backup and upgrading the Pro 6 to 0S6, I'm thinking of spending a bit more, getting a 316 instead of a 314, and using the Pro 6 for backup keeping it on RAIDiator 4.2.X.
The Pro 6 is still a solid box - I've upgraded it with a 2.66GHz E6700 CPU and 8GB RAM. How would this machine compare with the 316 in terms of overall speed and power?
The 316 has a newer but slower processor and a quarter of the RAM that I have in the Pro.
Aside from newer i/o and warranty, how do these machines compare for general-purpose use?
Thanks! - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredBoth should be pretty good. The 516/716x would be the logical upgrade path from the Pro 6, especially after the CPU upgrade.
The 316 is good model. It's not as fast as Pro 6 or the 516 though.
What do you use the NAS for? That will help determine if you need the extra processing power or not. - dhlLuminary

Great info, thank you. I had a hunch this may be the case but wanted to be sure.
We use the Pros for file storage and sharing - both typical business documents, as well as photo libraries and large media files used in video production. My partners' Pro serves a workgroup of about five people, mine is mostly just me. I also use mine as a media streamer via Subsonic.
I also use my Pro for video post-production storage and currently get ~110MB/s transfers up and down.
Agree that 516/716x is the logical upgrade but can't justify the cost. I was pricing the 314 and seeing that the 316 is just a couple hundred more, started thinking about this new scenario. It seems the 314 and 316 are basically the same machine with different number of bays. It sounds like I wouldn't get faster throughput with a 316. Throughput is as important as processing in my use.
Sounds like I'll be fine with the original plan - upgrade Pro 6 to OS6 and get a 314 for backup. Thanks for confirming. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYes the 314 and 316 have the same CPU as each other.
