Failed Windows Image backup to ReadyNAS 104 6.9.5

Hello all,

I'm using a NetGear ReadyNAS RN104 at firmware level 6.9.5.

Today I tried to run a full backup of my new Windows 10 laptop. The initial backup includes an image mode backup, too. 

On the ReadyNAS I have a home share for my user called "USER_1".

In the home share of "USER_1" I created a subdirectoy called "Backup_Laptop".

Both, the ReadyNAS and the Windows 10 laptop are connected to the same home network. On the Windows 10 laptop the network is a private network allowing to detect network shares.

On the Windows 10 laptop I added a backup disk and selected the network share ReadyNAS\USER_1\Backup_Laptop. I mapped this network share as drive Y: and used my USER_1 credentials to access the share. This worked fine.

The initial Windows 10 backup started and the file backup completed successfully. The image mode backup started but failed. When looking to the network share using the ReadyNAS admin I could see the files stored by the file backup but no image backup. I tried this 2 times but the image mode backup always failed.

I then added the ReadyNAS default shared backup folder as network drive to my Windows 10 backup. I used the same USER_1 credentials. This time the initial Windows 10 backup including image mode backup completed successfully.

My first though was to check the user quota on the different shares, but when I understand the knowledge docs correctly, the user home shares do not support quota.

I used the samba protocol all the time.

Can you help be to understand why the Windows 10 image mode backup always fails using a subdirectory in my USER_1 home share? Is there a hidden quota or file size limitation?
