Fan Problem After Upgrading To 6.5.0

Good Evening Community Members,

Today I upgraded my RN314 to the 6.5.0 firmware. I really like some of the new features that have been added however I am now getting a strange problem with my fan on the unit. At very random times the fan just speeds up and sounds like a wind tunnel and then slows down again. On the status page I get a red notification indicating that a fan failure has occurred. Then a few mins later the fan would slow down back to around 804 RPM and stay quiet again. I must say this is really annoying indeed. I know for a fact that there is no fan failure as it is spinning quite OK.  When I select the 'Cool' profile the fans would speed up again to 2376 RPM. Selecting 'Quiet' again would bring them back to 804 RPM. At random times the fans would just speed up of their own accord and for a short time indicate the fan failure error. After everything settles back down again the Status would go back to green and all is back to normal. I was hoping someone might have a solution to this as I am really considering going back to the previous version if this cannot be resolved. That’s if I can go back that is...

Cheers & thanks in advance for any assistance ;)

  • Each time the fan jumps to a new RPM level (there are 7 possible levels based on various temperature readings), it must calibrate the fan for that RPM level once each boot.  During that calibration period, which should take between a few seconds and 3 minutes, you may hear the fan speed up or slow down more than normal.  But once that is done, it should be stable.

We've also made some additional changes for 6.5.1 to take advantage of some hardware capabilities which should allow use to make fan adjustments more smoothly.

Which fan mode did you have set when you ran into the problem (quite, balanced or cool)?

Can you send in your logs (see the Sending Logs link in my sig)?

      Good Evening mdgm,

The fan mode was in 'Quiet' when it was going crazy.

      Logs sent in as requested.

      Cheers and thanks :)

We will need some extra logging to capture what's going on here. I have sent you a PM.
