Firmware Upgrade advice please? for legacy (x86) NAS

Question

Hi all,&nbsp;I kind of slacked on firmware upgrades.&nbsp; My last firmware upgrade on my Pro Pioneer (x86) was to 4.2.27.&nbsp;So my questions:&nbsp; What is the last most reliable firmware?&nbsp;and: What's the best way to upgrade to the last most reliable firmware?&nbsp; (ie. step by step to the latest, or just grab the latest and go)&nbsp;The last one that comes up searching Netgear is 4.2.30, but I've seen references to others in the forum (at least .31).&nbsp; Pressing the Update button inside Raidiator gets me nothing, sadly :(&nbsp;I'm okay with not having the bells and whistles of the new ones (for now), unless all that experimental firmware is rock solid.&nbsp;&nbsp;I also just learned that my machine is EOL.&nbsp; I guess I need to start looking for a new NAS?&nbsp;&nbsp;Thanks all for your help in advance!&nbsp;Cecilia

Please update to 4.2.31, this version fix Samb CVE-2017-7494.&nbsp;
You may download from below link, then manually update from ReadyNAS admin GUI.

Legacy (x86) NAS are EOL, if there is not critical issue, Netgear won't release new FW.

if your legacy nas is working and you do not already have another nas to offload/backup your data to, then generally there is no reason to worry about doing the OS6 upgrade.&nbsp;Since the os6 upgrade requires a factory default (ie losing all your data), it can be quite daunting and time consuming if you have a lot of data.&nbsp;That said, if you&nbsp;are in a position where you are able to easily backup/restore your data, and/or if you are looking to start expanding your nas with new larger disks, it might be a good idea to switch to os6 before you do the hard drive upgrades so you have a new and continually updated&nbsp;os with no potential issues with future upgrade paths.&nbsp;A couple other things to consider, if you buy a new readynas with OS6, you can backup your data to the new nas and get everything working on it, then you can safely upgrade your old nas to os6 and use the old nas to backup your data from your new nas.&nbsp;If you don't wan to spend money on a new nas, you could also look into used nas or older models readynas that can be upgraded to os6 before put into use.&nbsp;

yeah upgrading a legacy nas to os6 will require a full backup and restore.&nbsp;&nbsp;additionally, if you are using any older apps, you may want to check those apps (or alternative apps) have been updated to work on os6 too.&nbsp;Also, good that you already have backups, as no nas by itself is foolproof or can protect from all types of failures or situations.

Now that I've gotten this far...thinking about the OS6 upgrade.&nbsp;Nervous, though...I hate when things are working fine, and then I break them via an "Upgrade"...lol
