Folder creation date of two folders changed to Tuesday, January 24, 1984 at 2:00 AM

ReadyNAS 102, (Firmware 6.7.5), formerly mixed environment of Windows and Mac laptops for home use.  (I did have both AFP and SMB running for the share. :manembarrassed:

The timestamp on a few folders changed to "Tuesday, January 24, 1984 at 2:00 AM", not sure exactly when, but.. the timestamp for "last modified" and "last opened" is "Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 8:15 PM". The folder content can be accessed by an iPad, playing videos, but cannot be accessed from a Mac or Windows laptop, due to the messed up date stamp, I suspect.  Thus, it's difficult to manage the content efficiently.

1.Any idea what happened to that folder to cause the problem?

2. Is there a way to correct the bad timestamp?
3. Other suggestions? Note, I turned off AFP for shares that didn't need it.

Thanks in advance.

You could try using a NAS backup job to copy the folder to a temporary share.  If that works, delete the original, and copy back into the share.

    Hello BillyJoeBob,

Have you check the time and date setting of the NAS? Is the NAS and PC are has same time and date? Is the NAS integrated to a domain?

  • Hello Marty_M,

The time/date of the device is current, but the devices are not part of a domain.  Note that most folders' timestamps have not changed; just a couple.

Thanks.  I kinda did that by creating new folders in the share and using the NAS admin page to copy/paste the folders from the old to the new.  (I wasn't clear enough about accessing the NAS from the PC.  It couldn't explore the folders via Windows Explorer or Finder, but through http the contents could be seen.  Just recently could do this via Ethernet instead of WiFi, so it was a pretty quick task.

        Thanks for the workaround.
