Folder Password
Hi,
the way my ReadyNas NV+ used to work, everyone on my network (WORKGROUP) could open access any folder without a password. I just reset my ReadNas, then updated to latest firmware and it doesn't work the same way anymore. I don't understand how to make it work like before. Now, I can access the ReadyNas and see all the folders (shares) without a password, but then windows 7 asks me for a password to access any of the folder.
How can I fix it?
Thanks

- vandermerweMasterIt has probably changed you from share access to user access.
You will need to set the permissions for each share. Setup users on the NAS reflecting the users on your network and give them all access to each share. Alternatively enable guest access on all shares and/or set the default access for everyone.
These permissions are set in the properties of each share, go to the CIFS/SMB tab and the advanced settings tab. - elite_thutAspirantI verified and currently have set Security-->Security Mode to "Share" (not user). I am sharing with workgroup "WORKGROUP". As for the CIFS tab, I am not sure what to check over there. I have share access restrictions (hosts allowed access) unchecked and Share Display Option (Hide this share when a user browses the ReadyNas) unchecked as well. Finally, in the Advanced tab, I didn't touch anything. It is set as follows:
Share folder owner: Server (This is actually the name of the share (folder))
Share folder group: nogroup (This group has been created when I reset to factory default. The only other place I can see it is in User & Group Accounts, under Security. I see Name: Server, UID:1000, Primary Group: nogroup, Quota: 0)
Share folder owner rights: Read/write
Share folder group rights: Read/Write
Share folder everyone rights: Read/write
Set ownership and permission for existing files and folders in this share to the above settings: Unchecked
Grant rename and delete privileges to non-owner of files: Checked
Edit: Oh and yeah I have checked in "Share Listing" and the "password" field is empty... - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserOk.
You can try checking the "set ownership" box in advanced and clicking apply (bottom right). Note this is a command, not a state (e.g. it should be a button, not a checkbox).
Another thing to try is go into the credentials manager in the Windows control panel on the Windows PCs, and enter credentials for the NAS there. - elite_thutAspirantThe set ownership box didn't fix it. As for the credentials manager, I actually don't even know what to enter. I have tried entering the "Server" folder with my admin credentials without success, as well as many other random guesses (guest with no password, etc.)
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserAdmin (with the NAS admin password) should certainly work.
Is "allow guest access" checked in the Share Access Restrictions section (CIFS tab for the share). - elite_thutAspirantI tried again and "admin" (or "Admin") along with the same password I use to log into the admin panel doesn't work. As for the "Allow guest access", I see no such thing. Here is what's available under the CIFS tab.
Share Access Restrictions
[ ] Hosts allowed access:
Share Display Option
[ ] Hide this share when a user browses the ReadyNAS for available shares.
Recycle Bin
[ ] Enable Recycle Bin
Opportunistic Locking
Opportunistic locking (oplocks) can enhance CIFS performance by allowing files residing on this ReadyNAS to be cached locally on the Windows client, eliminating network latency when files are repeatedly accessed.
[ ] Enable oplocks for this share. - vandermerweMasterI'd suggest changing to user security mode and setting up users on the NAS that are the same as the users on your network.
I think it will be possible to set this up without having everyone have to login each time.
Guest access is there somewhere, perhaps it isn't there in share mode. - elite_thutAspirantBy setting it to user mode, I was able to login with admin credentials. The option to "allow guest" is now available; I checked it. I tried it already in the past (user mode), but I didn't realize until now that the other menus were changed as a consequence! Everything's working now!
Thanks everyone!!
