Thanks, mdgm-ntgr. Wiped the GUID using diskpart but it'll be a while before I can test it. My 314 is currently resyncing with the old HDD back in.
Was worried I'd hit an expansion limit. Is that an issue with the RN314?

No, you would not be running into an expansion limit. The expansion limits that affected e.g. RAIDiator-x86 4.2.x and RAIDiator-arm 5.3.x do not affect OS6 systems.
Which firmware are you running? There have been improvements in support for high capacity disks over time.

I'm running 6.6.0, so this inability to format is probably due to the GUID. I should know by tomorrow morning after the resync.
