Perhaps hook the disk up to your PC and wipe the partition table off it?

Well, the ReadyNAS finished resyncing and I added the clean HDD to it. But unfortunately I'm still getting the same error.
Can I reboot the NAS while it's still in "degraded" status and try again?

You can reboot the NAS, even though the volume is degraded.
If you use the NAS for primary storage (as opposed to backup) you might want to update your NAS backup. Or make one if you don't have one.

Almost one month later, following a factory reset and mutiple disk wipes and tests, I'm still getting the same error message for this 8TB HDD.
At my wit's end. The drive passes all tests and functions just fine. It's only my 314 that seems to have an issue with it.
