Getting "Input/output error"s! ReadyNAS doesn't care.
(Continuing from viewtopic.php?f=7&t=78769&p=442201)
A few days ago a share of mine went suddenly read-only. Pulling the logs revealed:
So I rebooted with a scan and got:
What. I did a diff with my backup and found an affected folder. I tried to put some files back and got an error. So I ssh-ed in.
What is going on here? All the SMART stuff is happy... allegedly. I don't know what to trust. What does an "I/O error" mean on a RAID volume?

- Avi_DrissmanAspirantOhhhhhhhh. Twelve hours later, 14 passes over memory, and if I'm reading it right, three errors?

That is not a good sign. My thoughts go to reseating and then replacement. - Avi_DrissmanAspirantI reseated the memory, and re-ran the test. 17 passes, 6 errors. OK, that's my answer. Bad RAM breaks everything.
http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=110&t=53390 says I need a 200-pin SO-DIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300. Normally I would just upgrade to the max available, but 4GB of a name brand is roughly $100 everywhere I look. If anyone has a suggestion for a cheaper 4GB let me know, otherwise I'm going to get the 2GB Crucial at Amazon http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B000F7QRTG/ for $27.
Thank you StephenB, dsm1212, and mdgm for your help.
