How to make the NAS completely open

I have my ReadyNAS Pro in a small Home office network with 3 different users all accessing the 5 different shares on it.
I am so struggling to give everybody full acces to all shares. I somehow can't get the settings right. I studied the User Manual and tried several things, but failed over and over  .

Could somebody please help me with:
a.) I want to reset all files to one owner called "Peter". some files were created by other people and now I cannot edit them.
b.) I would like all windows 7 users in my network to have full R/W acces to all folders, which setting do I need to set for each folder?

thanks so much for helping me

  • Thank you, I will try this. I want the NAS Wide open for anyone and everyone who can log into the NAS..

Originally I had "Guest Access" checked, is that necessary for logged in clients to have full read, write, edit access, or does Guest Access only allow someone who is not logged into to access the NAS??

Logged in clients will have read and write permissions based on the settings for the share and the permissions settings on the files and folders. Guest access is for users who do not have logins and passwords.
  • I've got a question related to this issue:

On my Duo i have all registered users in a group called "users".
If I have a share where there's only one user listed under "write enabled users" on the CISF-tab (no groups listed), and I set ownership and permission for existing files and folders to nobody/nogroup on the "advanced options" tab, will the files and folders in this share be available to other users (or even guests) regardless of the CIFS share access restrictions ?
Or will the CIFS share permissions take precedence over the permissions of files and folders in the share?

I have also problems with permissions on files and folders in the private home shares, after I (logged in as root or admin) were copying files and folders directly to the to the home folders of other users.
How do I set file/folder ownership and permissions to match the corresponding user on the private home shares?

Your CIFS settings determine who will be able to connect to the share. If a user cannot connect to the share, it doesn't matter what the permissions are on the files. Once the user is connected, the permissions on the files and folders will determine what the user can do.

You'll need to use this addon:

  • Thanks a lot, ewok!

I have installed the addon, but haven't checked the result yet.
Didn't find any user iterface for this addon, so I guess it's just doing it's job automagically all by itself?

    Thanks again :-)

Correct, it will go in and fix the permissions, then remove itself. If you need to reset them again, just reinstall it.
  • Thanks for your tuto sdouek !

i couldn't use SyncBackPro to backup my photos on my NAS from my windows because of some read/write problem on the collisions files.

    Now it work perfectly.
