Like most NASes the ReadyNAS uses a mixture of 3rd party open source, 3rd party proprietary and their own proprietary stuff. You can see the open source code that's used here: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2649/~/gpl-open-source-code-for-programmers
