I need a Screenshot of Backup Source
As much as I try I do not seem to be able to set up a back up. I cannot connect and don't know if it's the PC (Win XP) the Modem/ Router (Virgin Media Superhub) or my ReadyNas DUO V2.
If I knew I had set up the ReadyNAS properly I could move down the chain and look at other things. Problem is I'm lost as to what to put in the Backup Source options. There seems to be no definitive guidance on this and as much as I have looked at may threads on this board I am still stumped.
Screenshots would be really helpful as I am not a techie.
I failed setting up the e-mail notification as well, but that's another story.
Anyone out there set up a successful connection with an outfit similar to mine?
Cheers
Martyn

- dresden1AspirantJust to add my experience, I am running Windows 7 and cannot get backup to recognize any remote shares as everyone above mentioned.
- HERBIEOAspirantIf you are having problems with sharing on windows 7 try adjusting these settings see if this helps.
If you log into windows 7 with no password set one up now control panel user accounts when this is done follow steps below.
Please check related policies.
1. Enter “gpedit.msc” in the Start Search box.
2. Open “Computer Configuration”/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Local Policies/Security Settings.
3. In the right pane, enable the following policies:
Network access: Allow anonymous SID/name translation
Network access: Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users
Also please disable the following policies.
Network access: Restrict anonymous access to Named Pipes and Shares
Network access: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts
Network access: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts and shares
Change the following policy:
Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
Change the value to “Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated”.
Now exit here
Right click folder you want to share select share with homegroup read/write
If its a drive share with advanced sharing tick the share this folder box then into permissions everyone tick full control
Restart pc - NottubAspirantJust on another note the folders that copied all contained no spaces in the file description.
Worth looking at!
Martyn - ramasaigAspirantI've tried all the things suggested by Herbieo, but I'm still getting the cryptic error message:
"Error connecting to //Lunga/LungaData/documentsTim"
I've had ReadyNAS running on another computer for more than two years (with WinXP). Now I have swapped it for a Win7 x64 m/c, with essentially the same disk and file structure, and I cannot get past this point.
Computer Network Name: Lunga
Hard Drive (D) name: LungaDate. Sharing: Advenced sharing as 'D',Permissions: Everyone: Full Control
Folder name: documentsTim. Sharing: Everyone, Administrator, Tim
A backup job set up for a VISTA m/c using the same procedure, is working OK. It points more and more to a Win7 x64 problem in the ReadyNAS.
If anyone has any further suggestions I'd be most grateful to hear them. - StephenBGuru - Experienced Userramasaig - you should start your own thread on this.
This should include info on which NAS you are running (and what firmware). - ramasaigAspirant

I was thinking the same thing, although this thread appears (mostly) to be about ReadyNAS Duo V2, which is what I've got.
I will start a new thread.
