If I replace my 1 TB disks w 2 TB disks, will disks defrag?
I plan to replace the two 1 TB disks in my Duo 1 (X-RAID) with two 2 TB disks. One at a time. Hopefully, all will go well and my data will be preserved.
Will this result in the two 2 TB disks getting defragmented (data written more contiguously) and any improved performance?

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI don't think the expansion process will change the fragmentation.

- alokeprasadMentorTrue.
I was hoping that when the Duo encounters a new (empty) drive and starts to replicate data over to it (X-RAID), it would do so in a contiguous manner.
Looks like that doesn't happen. - chirpaLuminaryNope, the volume manager will do a clone of whats on disk one.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhat firmware did you last do a factory default (wipes, all data, settings, everything) on? You may be best to backup your data and do a factory default anyway to get 4k sector partition alignment.
- alokeprasadMentorI don't remember doing a factory default ever. That probably happened 4-5 years ago. when I purchased the DuoV1.
Do you suggest going through the disk upgrade process (switching disks), doing a backup, saving configuration, doing a factory default, restoring configuration, restore from backup?
Will saving configuration and restoring it after factory default mess up anything? That will restore my user accounts, volumes on the c drive etc. I'd like to restore configurations, if I could. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThere's some advice on my website (rnasguide.com)
One thing to note is that you should re-install any add-ons you had installed before the factory default (if you still wish to use them) before restoring your config - alokeprasadMentorThank you. I am going through the site .. very helpful.
Quick Q: How do I verify that a Frontview backup to an attached USB drive is good? Is there a "verify after backup" option?
Or do I depend on the logs (which ones)? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredOne option would be to open files randomly and check that they are fine.

If your a windows user you could use this free program to verify your backup i have used this myself and have not found any problems with it > http://www.exactfile.com/
