Invalid Shares
Hi All,
I have a head scratch of a problem here
A client's netgear nas has recently been playing up and share folders seem to be hit and miss.
I have one folder shared out but it is hidden and should not make a differrence
The 'Home' Share has been disabled/hidden, so basically if any staff memeber was to browse to \\NAS, it would look empty.
But a few days later the Home share was visable again, and a folder share called 'Data' both appear to be system related folders. The Data share appears to have net folders such as ._share, .apps, .purge, .timemachine.
I have upgraded the OS ro ver 6.6.0, rebooted multiple times and a shutdown and power on. All show the same two folders.
At this stage, i do not want to perform a factory reset as this NAS has 1TB+ worth of Backup images and is a production NAS.
Is there anything i can do from Putty or WinSCP?

All Credentials are removed from the Server. I have even tried browsing from workstations that have never browsed that NAS and its the same isssue. Again, both user accounts display the same results. The backup account is just a 'User' with no admin privaliges, and as i have said previously this is the first and only NAS that has ever done this.
I agree it's very strange. Maybe try resetting the NAS admin password, and see if that has some effect on the behavior.

What this means is that you are accessing \\NAS using the NAS admin credentials. If you do that, you will see the full Data volume (your "Data" folder) and "home". If that is undesirable, you need to look in the windows credential manager, and either delete or edit any stored credentials for the NAS.
You should also be seeing all the shares in the Data folder. Are you?

All my NAS setups are the same (~120 or Netgear NAS units, either the RN 102 or 212 models), One share which is hidden, Home user share disabled/hidden with two user accounts, the default admin account and a 'Backup' account.
Both user accounts have the same issue, when authenticaing to the NAS in windows it shows these two directories which have never appeared before. Surprisingly sometimes hitting refresh will show no directories, hitting refresh again will show the same direcotires.
You should also be seeing all the shares in the Data folder. Are you?
Correct, clickiing inside the the Data Folder shows the share names which are accessaible

Well, again - check the credentials that the PC is using when accessing the NAS. If you see data and home in the share list, the NAS is being given admin credentials.
